Only months post the Kathua Rape case many others have come to light including the abuse of a minor in Mumbai and an eight year old in Haryana. A doctor practising in Kalyan in Mumbai repeatedly sexually abused a minor who worked as a compounder and attendant at his clinic. She had allegedly been suffering abuse at the hands of her employer Taj Ansari for several months. He has now been arrested. Another case where an eight year old was raped and murdered in Haryana has now been served the death penalty.
According to the police when the minor retaliated against the doctor’s advances he threatened to fire her and spoil her reputation in her locality. The minor hailed from a poor family and was in desperate need of the job because of which she continued to tolerate the harassment. Sometime after Dilshad Shaikh, the chemist in question found out about the harassment meted out against the minor and proceeded to record the same. The minor was then further blackmailed by the chemist. He then sexually abused her and forced her to comply threatening to post the video on social media if she didn’t cooperate. He is currently absconding. Once the minor couldn’t take it anymore, she talked to her family who approached the Kolsewadi Police. Taj Ansari is being questioned while Dilshad Shaikh still appears to be on the run. Along with a rape case being registered the men have been booked under various sections of POCSO.
As per the recent changes in the constitution, allowing capital punishment to rapists whose victims are less than 12 years of age, a 19 year old boy was given the death penalty in Haryana was raping and killing an eight year old girl. The trial took 6 months to complete it’s rounds and finally reached the aforementioned verdict.
The victim was left alone in the house when her parents had to take her younger brother to the hospital. The accused who also worked in the same factory as the minor’s father was staying on rent in the house and lured the minor into his bedroom. He then showed her porn and attempted to force himself upon her. When the girl resisted he bound her hands and legs and raped her. To ensure the girl wouldn’t inform her parents he strangled her to death and hid the body in his almirah from where the police procured the body following a search.
Judge Naresh Kumar when giving the verdict equaled the seriousness of the crime to the 2012 Nirbhaya case or Delhi rape case and commented, “the pain and suffering of that particular innocent child is very material. The court cannot ignore it. This case cannot be considered as lesser to Nirbhaya because the victim who was innocent, having a bright future, was murdered for the purpose of sexual act and in the daylight within the vicinity of the village.”
