Often western notions of feminism fail to address some of the issues that arise in a diverse country like India,  a place where every predicament is influenced by caste, class, race, gender and sexual orientation differences. It is not enough to have Womens' magazines that mostly talk of fashion and beauty and are occasionally drizzled with the story of a successful model or businesswoman. It is imperative to talk about the struggles of the common masses and the triumphs that the patriarchal narrative sweeps underneath the carpet. Khalbali is an inclusive platform that aims to showcase not just the glories of the feminist movement but also the struggles and give the myriad voices a reason to believe that they are not alone.

We are living in an era that will is done taking inequality lying down. No matter how personal or political your fight, each one counts. The defiant acts of a girl sneaking out to the village school when she is supposed to be home, a woman entering the first room of her own, a person negotiating their gender identity, an activist that sits on a hunger strike, a protest that amasses thousands of people, these have the power to transform the nation. The power to leave the nation shaken not just stirred.
